CitySavings Celebrates National Teachers Month

THANK YOU TEACHERS: City Savings Bankers from over 100 branches nationwide went the extra mile during the bank-wide NTM celebration last September 30 with fun games, appetizing snacks, refreshments and personalized freebies.

City Savings Bank (CitySavings) honored thousands of educators through various events during the month-long celebration of National Teachers’ Month (NTM) from September 5 to October 5.

Last September 23, the bank co-presented “Titser Ko, Garbo Ko! Teachers’ Got Talent” together with the Department of Education (DepEd) Region 7, the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI), Mega Cebu, and the Coalition for Better Education (CBE). The elimination round held at the Cube Wing of SM Seaside Cebu showcased the various talents of Cebuano teachers representing schools from the Local Government Units (LGUs) comprising Mega Cebu.

“This competition aims to honor and showcase the talents and creativity that our teachers have outside the classroom” shared CBE Executive Director Luchi Flores. Teacher Melinda Lapingcao from the Division of Lapu-Lapu City emerged victorious with her superb song rendition of “Usahay” which she charmingly performed during the Mega Cebu Awards Night last October 4 at the Grand Convention Center of Cebu. Other winners came from the divisions of Danao City, Compostela, Carcar City, and Cordova.

Teacher-clients were delighted when City Savings Bankers from over 100 branches nationwide went the extra mile during the bank-wide NTM celebration last September 30 with fun games, appetizing snacks, refreshments and personalized freebies.

“Thank you CitySavings for celebrating teachers’ month with us. We felt welcomed and loved” said Teacher Lecar Marie Maghanoy from Tubod National High School, Cebu as she expressed her gratitude to the bank.

As a recognized collaborating partner of the NTM Coordinating Council (NTMCC) since 2015, CitySavings was also given the opportunity to join the culmination activity spearheaded by DepEd Central Office last October 5 at Ibalong Centrum for Recreation, Legazpi City, Albay with the theme “Gurong Pilipino: Kaakbay sa Progreso”. About 6,000 teachers from the different regions nationwide came to celebrate.

"CitySavings has always been a great partner of DepEd in the implementation of its programs and projects” mentioned Sorsogon Province Schools Division Superintendent Loida Nedia as she conveyed the bank’s strong commitment in supporting teachers.

Hailing from a family of teachers, Education Secretary Leonor Briones commended the Filipino educators and emphasized the importance of continuous learning. “I have heard stories of our teachers particularly their hard work and perseverance in this profession. We have to prepare students to accept change, to live with change, plan and react to change in a positive manner.”

Republic Act 10743 and UNESCO have designated October 5 of every year as National Teachers’ Day and World Teachers’ Day to honor teachers and the central role they play in guiding children, youth and adults through the life-long learning process. The Philippines observes a month-long celebration to provide more opportunities for participating private and public organizations and agencies to honor teachers in various ways.
