CitySavings donates disaster kits, partners with WeatherPhilippines for more Weather 101 in NCR

A group of public school teachers from the Division of Makati proudly shows their certificates after successfully completing the training conducted by WeatherPhilippines' meteorologists. This is in partnership with selected NCR branches of City Savings Bank.

City Savings Bank through its Robinsons Galleria (formerly Ortigas) branch donated 193 disaster kits to two public schools in the division of Pasig and has once again partnered with Weather Philippines Foundation to conduct another series of Weather and Tropical Cyclone 101 for public school teachers from the divisions of Mandaluyong, Makati, and San Juan last November 23, December 01 and 02 respectively to inculcate weather awareness and disaster preparedness.

The said series of seminars were well attended by principals, Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) focal persons and school officials namely Bony Abalos, DepEd Mandaluyong OIC-Schools Division Superintendent; Claudio Rojo, DepEd Makati Chief of School Governance and Operations Department and Dr. Salome Ingua, DepEd San Juan Education Program Supervisor.

It aims to help the participants understand the basic concepts, processes and effects of different weather disturbances and rain-producing weather systems in the country so that they can create their own disaster preparedness programs to reduce the impacts of weather-related disasters. It covered Weather 101: Basic Meteorology and Weather Processes, and Tropical Cyclone 101 discussed by Neil John Ramal and David Michael Padua, WeatherPhilippines' Junior and Senior Meteorologists respectively.

"This seminar sponsored by CitySavings and conducted by WeatherPhilippines is indeed very informative and relevant. We're truly grateful to undergo this. The topics were very appropriate especially in our country visited by an average of 20 typhoons per year. The speakers' manner of delivery is just suitable for us who are not meteorologists. May more teachers benefit for better DRRM/CCA integration in their respective subjects." Shared Lamberto SA Cruz, DepEd Makati, SEPS-HRD, SGOD.

Rojo on the other hand emphasized the importance of being mindful and responsive to the different weather conditions especially that their students depend on them.

Participants also actively joined a mini quiz bee conducted which reinforced the concepts imparted to them. Dave Michael Valeriano, WeatherPhilippines' General Manager discussed the updates about the foundation and review of the Weather Portal Access (www.weather.com.ph). "Everyday, the weather affects us…what clothes we should wear, will our flights be cancelled, do I need to bring an umbrella…and just like what the G.I. Joe character said, "Knowing is already half the battle." He mentioned.
